Ghost Circles Mock-Ups

This project is something I threw together for a few reasons. Some friends of mine have started a band that brings back the glory days of drop-d 90s nerd rock. Pulling their biggest influence from one of my favorite bands growing up, HUM, they make me think of better days spent walking to the local laundromat to pick up a Slush-Puppy. Delicious thick and melodic. Right?

So I love HUM (reason 1)
I like working for friends (reason 2)
I am into the band name, 'Ghost Circles' (reason 3)
and quite possibly the reason this is actually completed right now, I had to have a client for one of my design classes (reason 4)

All in all, it's a pretty simple design. I'm into the type and color scheme of this guy considering it was done all in Illustrator. I usually draw everything by hand but not here!

I am not expecting to see this thing in actual physical form (unless somebody convinces the GC guys to print it up) but it's fun to look at none the less.

Anywho,

Check out HUM

Check out Ghost Circles

Check out this mock-up

Also, this blog should be expecting some new t-shirt designs up soon as well as some news on a winter art show(?) Just something to think about.

So here is the WERE-WALLABY finished poster. I am planning on doing a series of these (4 in total) and I have to say, I'm pretty excited about it. Involves other W animals. I won't say which yet but I'll keep you updated.

PUNK ROCK PROM

WAS amazing. Probably some of the most fun I've had in a long while. Playing David Bowie cover tunes in a backyard to a bunch of punks... so awesome. I recommend everyone do this at least once in their life. Blastified...

On another note. I've been really into Anamanaguchi lately. So there's that.

R.I.P. CUCU

Today is the day (as Lesley and Greg will tell you) that I discovered that one of my favorite bands, Chin Up Chin Up, is no longer in existence. I know they said "fairwell" to fans earlier this year, but due to the hiatus they took, I didn't keep a close enough eye on them to notice. Some of the members left to form Vacations, which I do enjoy. I feel like Chin Upx2 had a lot more going on with the music and didn't make me feel like I was stuck in a tourist trap in Hawaii (**not a bad thing). Oh well... I guess these things happen. I do regret not seeing this wonder of a band live and then again, I don't recall them ever touring close enough to me that it would have been feasible to attend a show. I wrote a review of their sophomore release a couple years back and have had them in constant rotation on my iPod since I first heard their first record.

I had planned on leaving links to CUCU stuff but cannot find any on the web. I strongly encourage you get ahold of their material. It's great.

Despite what I have said here, Vacations is actually a really good band. They deserve some listening.

Check them.

Oh! What glorious FIRE OIL!(?)

What a wondrous day! Spent playing Plants Vs. Zombies (which I conquered today FYI), wandering around Wal-Greens, exploring an extraordinarily interesting Harvest Fest, and creating a delicious/nutritious meal in under an hour.
Pretty great eh?

Well, I think so.

On the cooking note, we've started a Recipe blog in which anyone is invited to contribute. I hope you all do. it should be awesome, I added the link to my links section.

Here's a look at our first contribution to the blog! And tonight's dinner. Which is inside of me. Right now. Gross.

MUSACK!

One week

before school starts. For most of my friends, this is their last weekend free. Ah, the perks of community college.

Tonight is going to be a great night. How? Well, Team Z has the pleasure of playing the 2nd annual Overnight reunion show. I'm stoked. I love them and their music. So, if by some chance you are reading this the day of posting, come to the Taylair tonight and have a good time.

In other news, Zagadka will be playing with Dear and the Headlights next month. Woohoo! Another awesome band. I'd love to share some great music with y'all so I've got 3 things in mind.

Finally home

So tour was awesome. Met tons of people. All of them were awesome and super nice. Big thanks to Mike and Darren, Tyler, Seri and Spencer, Jeff, Tom Mc, Byron, Charlie and the fam, and everyone else I forgot. We had a killer time with you all and can't wait to come back and see you again.

I am STOKED on the new David Bazan record right now. It feels so much different than any Pedro or Headphones for that matter. It's almost a chronicle of his religious inner conflict? At least that's what all the reviews are reading. I think I may see what Pitchfork has to say. They hate him. HOW CAN ANYONE HATE DAVID BAZAN?

Anywho,

Have a listen.

Aaaaaaaand I'm even more spent...

The drive from San Diego to Phoenix again was killer. I am BEAT. But it's been an amazing time. We played WEST FEST about half an hour ago and are waiting to hear Lanterns and the Constellation Branch. I'm pretty stoked for both sets. The bands are awesome. You should check them out.

We head up to NORCAL tomorrow and luckily have the day off. I'm super stoked to meet up with Byron and the dudes of Caulfield. Check them out too.

Links.... acquired.

HotHotHotHotHotHotHotHot

So we're dragging our feet in Phoenix. We were going strong with our heads held high, then the A/C crapped out... kept driving... truck started to smell funny... kept driving... smoke started coming from the hood. So... needless to say, we stopped at a Shell station in Phoenix AZ. Hands down, that was the hottest, sweatiest, most uncomfortable I've been in my life.

Good news is, I now know how to change a fan belt (though that did NOT fix the problem). So we're now at Jameson's cousins house laying in a room with a fake arm that Matt swears "grabbed" his ankle as we walked out earlier. Oh, it has been a day! Hopefully we can get up early and sniff out a cheap mechanic. Until then, enjoy the smooth jams of my main man, Jim James!

My Morning Jacket

I'm spent.

The first day of tour. Tucson is awesome (aside from the heat). Everyone we've ran into has been super nice and given us nothing but great response and hospitality. I feel like a jerk because I called Tim smart-ass. Why? I'm not really sure. Hope he accepts my apology.

Currently we're staying at Mike and Darren's place. House is awesome, super nice dudes. Darren used to play in the Bled, so I'll leave you with some of that.

Hopefully, I will be able to post tomorrow.

BEGINNING

So today is my last day home before tour. I'm super excited. The show last night ruled. HARD. We definitely are being sent off in the right way. It's really amazing the community we have all created in Albuquerque in the music scene. It all is beginning to feel like one big family. That's awesome.

One of my favorite bands, KIDCRASH, posted a new song on their MySpace. Stoked because they're going to post a new track every Friday until SNACKS is released. I think it's awesome and you all should go have a listen.

Other than that, be well friends. I'll do my best to keep up with updates on the tour and I look forward to meeting those of you I haven't!

There will be no leap into hyperspace and... It's already too late.

I received the sad news that Sputniq's tour is cancelled today. It's such a bummer considering they are one of the best bands that New Mexico has to offer. I would personally like to ask everyone to send good vibes their way because they definitely deserved a longer tour. These things happen, I guess? Listen to them, offer up some kind words.

Sputniq's Myspace Page

Anywho,

It's about 3 days until we officially leave for tour and we're stoked. The whole idea of spending a bit over a week in California is really exciting. I can't wait to put my toes in some sand and share some laughs with some bands there.

Until next time, this is how excited I feel.

Oh the sounds of summer.

Hasn't this summer been just dandy? I think it has. There definitely have been a lot of changes for everyone I believe. The whole city of Albuquerque seems to be buzzing and coated in freshly pink new skin. Not to say the road to where we are hasn't been rough, I'd claim the opposite. And yet, the growth undergone on a personal level leaves me feeling relieved. It's quite refreshing. I feel like I am where I want to be.

Let's share some good tunes, eh?

This is a small portion of the rotation of my iPod throughout these scorching months. Enjoy!

The Satanic Satanist.

So, I've been raving about this record even before it was released. I used to scam the interweb everyday looking for song files and leaks... oooooooof. But at any rate, it is my favorite release of this year so far, not only because of the vast expanse of awesome tracks, but also due to the killer packaging and artwork. Austin Sellers (probably my favorite graphic artist) and John Gourley (another favorite) really outdid themselves with this one.

So, pick up a physical copy of the record, it's awesome and definitely definitely worth it.

Initial Post

Hello blog world. This is Adam Abeyta's blog space. If you happen to find yourself reading this, you probably have an idea of who I am. As it is, this blog will contain some awesome posts of arts and thoughts and everfin else you (or I rather) care to share with the world. A personal map to some treasures I hide away somewhere in this head of mine.

Being my first post, I feel that I should leave everyone with something fun. So, thanks to Greg, a definite gentleman, feast your eyes on some FANG ISLAND playing to a class of Kindergardeners. Oh so cute/awesome/weird? Maybe a bit.
